First decide how the opening needs to move.
Custom gates are about access, not just appearance. A side-yard walk gate, a double driveway gate and an automated sliding entrance have very different frames, clearances, hardware and maintenance needs.
Swing gates
A single or double leaf moves through an arc. The driveway grade, clear swing area, hinge posts and vehicle approach shape the design.
Sliding gates
The gate travels beside the opening. It needs enough side room for the full gate and the appropriate track, guide or cantilever hardware.
Opening width is not the same as gate length
A driveway might have a fourteen-foot clear opening while the fabricated sliding gate is longer to allow overlap and support. We measure both, then specify the actual gate type, movement direction and finished height before fabrication.
Wood-clad steel or decorative metal?
Steel-framed wood entrances coordinate with cedar privacy fencing while using a fabricated structure underneath. Wrought iron gates keep the entrance visually open. The frame, posts and fittings should be sized for the gate, not borrowed from a standard fence bay.
Manual versus automatic entry
Automated gates add power, controls, safety devices, operator sizing, battery or solar planning and service access. Available electrical power, expected cycles, gate weight, travel and safe reversing or entrapment protection need to be reviewed before selecting an operator.
We also discuss deliveries, trailers, emergency access and the way guests will use the entrance. A beautiful gate that blocks the normal turning path is not a good design.

Frequently asked questions
Are Pecos gates custom built?
Yes. Gate size, frame, material, posts, hardware, movement, and finish are planned around the actual opening and property rather than relying on one standard gate size.
Do you build steel-framed wood gates?
Yes. Steel framing can provide a stronger structural backbone while wood cladding allows the gate to coordinate with a privacy fence or the architecture of the property.
Do you install automatic gate openers?
Yes. Automated gate systems can be planned for solar or hardwired power depending on site access, usage, gate weight, and equipment requirements.
Sliding or swing gate—which is better?
It depends on the property. Swing gates need clear arc space and workable grade. Sliding gates need room beside the opening for the gate to travel. We measure both before recommending a layout.
Can you repair an existing gate?
Often. We inspect the frame, hinges, posts, rollers or track, latch, and operator to determine whether repair, rebuilding, or replacement is the better value.
